EUROL 3 organized a Workshop on the Joint Operational Office (JOO) on 30 and 31 August 2022. The workshop took place in the premises of the Police Directorate in Podgorica and gathered representatives of the Interpol – Europol, the Department for Fight against Organized Crime, the CID – International Cooperation, and the Border Police.
For this purpose, EUROL 3 contracted two international experts (Mr. Gerald Tatzgern and Mr. Dieter Rudolph), who are both employed in the Criminal Intelligence Service of the Austrian Ministry of Interior.
The aim of the workshop was to introduce the participants with the recently established department 8 of the Austrian Criminal Intelligence Service, its structure and competences, as well as best practice of the department. In addition, the experts presented the JOO, its competencies and obligations, case studies on national and international cooperation, possibilities for further improvement of the existing bilateral and multilateral cooperation, coordination and conversion of operative inquiries in the area of organized crime, analysis of information concerning trafficking in human beings and migrant smuggling, evaluation and processing of this information, the ‘JOO-bus’, its equipment and examples for practical use of the bus, tools for data collection, analysis, and data extraction with special technical equipment, and the special translation and language assistance program for monitoring data.
Representatives of the Montenegrin Border Police and the Department for the Fight against Organized Crime were invited to present their work methods, best practices, as well as shortcomings and problems occurring in practice.
The productive discussion led to outcomes such as the potential support of the functioning of the Montenegrin police by using the JOO Vienna platform, and of the capacities for technical and language support.
Cooperation with JOO will continue with the presentation of the JOO bus in Montenegro.
