EUROL 3 organized a short-term expert mission conducted by Brigadier General Carlo Verdiglione (National Police Italy) for the enhancement and support of the professional capacities of the witness protection unit and close personal protection unit in the set up and implementation of appropriate, effective, and sustainable witness protection measures from 29 January to 2 February 2024.
This short-term expert mission aimed to strengthen Montenegrin’s specialised competent agencies responsible for witness protection and close personal protection in enhancing its capacities.
The EU expert provided assistance and will – based on the information gathered during the mission – draft and deliver an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the existing system for witness protection and close personal protection with recommendations for overcoming the recognized weaknesses.
These recommendations will be relevant for the future work of and future assistance to the Special Public Prosecution Office and specialised law enforcement departments related to witness protection and close personal protection and to bring them in line with the EU acquis and EU standards.
