EUROL 3 organized a study visit for a Montenegrin delegation to the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation (Bundeskriminalamt) in Vienna, Austria from 20 to 24 November 2023.
The study visit aimed for improving investigation capacities with a specific focus on complex criminal and financial investigations.
The general aim of this study visit was to introduce Montenegrin senior police officers and staff from financial investigation units fighting against organized crime and corruption with state-of-the-art investigation techniques applied by the Austrian officials working in specialised departments of the ‘Bundeskriminalamt’.
In addition to a series of presentations in thematic areas such as combatting organised crime, drug crime, economic crime, money laundering and corruption, the delegates were also given an insight into investigative techniques and modalities related to the darknet, international vehicle crime, big data analysis, blackmail and hate e-mails, as well as the functionality of the EU SIRENE system.
After each presentation, the delegates had the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas with their Austrian colleagues. This led to lively discussions and conversations, which resulted in a solid increase in knowledge among the Montenegrin experts.
At the end of the study visit, informal agreements were made to improve the bi-lateral cooperation in the fight against cross-border organised crime and drug smuggling.
